Hello Film Clubbers!
I’m stoked for our first meeting of 2025, when we will discuss All We Imagine As Light. There is one more screening this Thursday at 7:00pm.
Keep reading for some interviews with the film’s director, essays on the film, and some background on Indian Cinema. Also, the suggestions from our December meeting, this year’s Adult Winter Watching Challenge, and info on an upcoming movie night at the library (which will be very relevant for February Film Club). Oh, and the inaugural Futurary challenge!
Links!!
I was hoping to find a nice narrative history of Indian Cinema, but it eluded me. This Wikipedia rundown is quite thorough, especially if you click through to read specifically about Bollywood, Telugu Cinema, etc.
It’s always wise to read Justin Chang. He sings the praises of All We Imagine As Light for the New Yorker.
This interview with director Payal Kapadia sheds a lot of light on the film, and her process making it.
Another great interview with the director, this one from Filmmaker Magazine.
Each of these links sheds some light on the controversial decision from the Film Federation of India not to submit All We Imagine As Light for Academy Award consideration.
Adult Winter Watching 2025
Adult Winter Watching is back for 2025! Pick up an entry slip at the library and have some fun!! You may notice Film Clubbers have an advantage with these categories…
Movie Night at the Library
The Inaugural Futurary is Upon Us!!
Created by Film Club’s own Yen — Futurary is a science fiction movie watching challenge on Letterboxd. If you’ve been around Film Club for a while, you’ve probably heard of HoopTober — this is like that, but with science fiction instead of horror movies. Basically, you watch 28 science fiction movies throughout January and February, write reviews, and have a whole lot of fun. Of course, there are many rules — which can be found here! There are already several Film Clubbers on board. Will join us for an uncertain Futurary?
